Jacob Susman

Jacob Susman is a principal investor, a corporate renewables thought leader, a Founder-CEO & business builder, a project and corporate finance professional and a project developer & originator with a global power sector network. He has been building businesses, investing, developing and originating renewable energy since 1999.

Jacob established a foundation in credit as a corporate banker with CoreStates, then led renewable energy business development for AES, a global power company, in Spain. After business school, at Wharton, Jacob joined Goldman Sachs as a principal investor and was instrumental in its successful investment in Horizon Wind Energy.

Jacob left Goldman to found OwnEnergy. He led the business through the full venture cycle, from conception to exit, including recruiting and managing its industry-leading team, raising capital, establishing a nationwide brand, originating PPA’s with corporate and utility clients, developing projects, monetizing assets, leading the Company’s board and managing a successful sale to EDF Renewable Energy.

While at EDF Renewables, Jacob served as its executive leader of customer-facing activities in its US Grid Scale Power business, with a primary focus on originating long-term power contracts with corporate and utility customers.

Jacob served on the Board of the American Wind Energy Association. He also served as a member of the board of the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance. In 2010, Jacob was named to Crain’s New York ’40 Under 40’, and in 2012, he was named an E&Y Entrepreneur of The Year Finalist. In 2013, Greentech Media named Jacob one of New York’s Top 10 Cleantech Leaders. Jacob holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
