ACORE Applauds Nevada Governor for Signing Stronger RPS Legislation into Law


Washington, D.C. – The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) today hailed Nevada’s enactment of a new state renewable portfolio standard (RPS) that will require the state to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, and aims for a 100% carbon-free electricity supply by 2050.

Passed unanimously by the Nevada Senate and Assembly, the bill became law today with Gov. Steve Sisolak’s signature.

It follows a state ballot initiative that passed last November, which would have set the same standards, but required another vote in 2020 to take effect.

“Today, Nevada joins a growing list of states heeding the wishes of voters to prioritize clean, renewable power. This initiative will reduce emissions, save consumers money, and provide Nevadans with plenty of local, good-paying jobs.

We applaud Gov. Sisolak and the state lawmakers who championed this bill for their leadership, and look forward to the cleaner future that awaits the Silver State.”
