ACORE Welcomes Walmart’s Vishal Kapadia to its Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), a national nonprofit that unites finance, policy and technology to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy, today announced the election of Vishal Kapadia, Senior Vice President, Energy Transformation at Walmart, to its Board of Directors.

“We are thrilled to add Vishal, a longtime renewable energy sector leader, to ACORE’s Board of Directors,” said ACORE President and CEO Gregory Wetstone. “His experience, along with Walmart’s leadership, including an ambitious effort to power its operations with 100% renewable energy sources by 2035, will be a great asset as we work to advance renewable energy growth across the country.”

Vishal Kapadia is responsible for accelerating Walmart’s transition to zero emissions by 2040 and leading new business initiatives like the retailer’s EV charging network, which will expand to thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations nationwide by 2030. Before joining Walmart in 2022, Vishal spent nearly four years at Orsted, where he was responsible for building and leading strategy, business development, M&A, and finance as CFO and CCO of the company’s onshore renewables development business. Prior to Orsted, he led renewable energy finance and investment activities for Morgan Stanley, including board-level management of two wind energy-focused operating and development platforms.

“As Walmart accelerates our energy transition, coordination with organizations like ACORE will be critical to strengthening development and innovation in the renewable energy sector,” said Kapadia. “I’m honored to join the ACORE Board and collaborate with my fellow board members to drive growth in renewable energy across the country and accelerate progress toward an affordable, reliable and emissions-free power system.”

“Vishal will be a great addition to ACORE’s already strong Board, and I look forward to working with him at this critical time for our sector,” added ACORE’s Board Chair Kevin Gresham, Senior Vice President, Government Relations & Regulatory Affairs for RWE Clean Energy.
