Melissa Lucky

Melissa Lucky, President

Melissa Lucky, née Miller, became President of OGOS Energy after her father and founder, Mike Miller, passed away from a long battle with prostate cancer in September 2022. As an entrepreneur and community organizer, she knew that there would be no better way to honor him than to use her collective professional experiences to take over OGOS and continue to grow his impactful legacy.

Before joining OGOS full-time, Melissa received a B.A. in Economics/Management & Organization from Spelman College and subsequently worked as a buyer/planner for an upscale national department store, giving her >$140M in large-scale financial modeling expertise. She also spent many years as a licensed Maryland Realtor, which provided invaluable insight on the local real estate market and zoning ordinances. Additionally, she served three terms on the executive board of the District 30 Democratic Club in Annapolis, MD, making her well-versed in legislative policy advocacy and community engagement, while allowing her to develop several important political relationships.

Melissa was recently selected for the Community Power Accelerator Learning Laboratory training supported by the US Department of Energy National Community Solar Partnership and is excited to usher in a new era for OGOS.

Inspiration to Start Company

Simply put, Michael G. Miller founded OGOS Energy in 2014 as the final chapter in his lifelong endeavor to leave the world better than he found it. After receiving a devastating stage IV prostate cancer diagnosis, Mike devoted himself to utilizing his 40+ years of experience in Fortune 100 commercial real estate development, high finance, and strategic consulting for a public utility to create a company that could help tackle the greatest threat to humanity’s future – climate change.

Just months later, OGOS became the first ever minority-owned company to qualify with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to bid for offshore wind lease development rights. OGOS participated in the Maryland offshore lease auction and subsequently provided the industry with project development support.

Before Mike’s death in 2022, OGOS went on to develop a 9MW solar portfolio with more than 11,000,000 kWh in annual production. This not only provided >20% cost savings for 700 community solar households, it’s also powering WSSC Water – one of the largest water and wastewater utilities in the nation – which earned us the distinction of being selected as a 2020 Solar Builder Project of the Year finalist. OGOS’ work is far from over, but Mike’s vision has unquestionably been realized.
