ACORE Celebrates Historic New York Bight Offshore Wind Auction
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following is a statement from Gregory Wetstone, President and CEO of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), following the completion of the New York Bight Offshore Wind Lease Auction.
“The New York Bight offshore wind lease auction – the largest in our nation’s history – is an undeniable sign of the momentum behind the transition to a renewable energy economy. With winning bids totaling roughly $4.37 billion across six separate leases, renewable energy developers have demonstrated their commitment to accelerating the growth of the U.S. offshore wind sector to unlock clean, affordable energy and create thousands of jobs.
“The unprecedented interest in the New York Bight lease sites is one component of our once-in-a-generation opportunity to promote a thriving offshore wind sector, along with investing in our domestic manufacturing capabilities, reforming the transmission planning and interconnection processes, and enacting a long-term clean energy tax platform.”
