ACORE Congratulates New FERC Chairman Richard Glick

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following is a statement from Gregory Wetstone, President and CEO of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), on Richard Glick being appointed Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC):

“We extend our congratulations to new FERC Chairman Richard Glick. He has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to unlocking the regulatory barriers to the clean energy transition, and we’re looking forward to working with him during this pivotal time for the Commission, our nation and our planet.

“We are particularly hopeful that Chairman Glick will turn his strong condemnation of the Minimum Offer Price Rule (MOPR) in the PJM capacity market and the Buyer-Side Mitigation (BSM) measures currently imposed in NYISO into immediate action. These are destructive, market-distorting policies that need to be repealed so low-cost renewables can fairly compete in the marketplace and consumers are not forced to pay more money than they should for clean, cost-effective renewable energy. ACORE also looks forward to the Commission beginning the process of replacing Order No. 1000 on transmission planning. Ten years have now passed since its finalization, and not one interregional transmission line has been built using the process it established. It is time for FERC to adopt a new rule that helps modernize and expand our nation’s outdated and congested power grid, an essential step in addressing our climate challenge. We also encourage the Commission to swiftly finalize its proposed policy statement on carbon pricing, and expand and standardize hybrid resource integration across RTO/ISO markets.

“Under new leadership that recognizes the magnitude of the climate crisis, we are confident a reinvigorated FERC can achieve the long-overdue regulatory reforms needed to accelerate our energy transition.”
