ACORE Commends FERC’s Issuance of Transmission Incentives NOPR

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following is a statement from Gregory Wetstone, President and CEO of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), on today’s issuance by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) to revise the Commission’s transmission incentive policies.

“We commend FERC for taking much-needed steps to revise their electric transmission incentive policies. Transmission incentives should be reformed to promote necessary investment in the transmission system, ensure grid reliability and resilience, promote economic growth, harness the nation’s abundant domestic renewable energy resources, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. ACORE looks forward to reviewing this proposal in detail and filing timely comments with the Commission.”

Background:

In June 2019, ACORE filed comments with FERC calling for the Commission to “shift from a ‘risks and challenges’ to a ‘benefits’ framework, which can unlock private sector investment with minimal regulatory reform.” In August 2019, ACORE formed a sector-wide “Grid Advancement Coalition” to reiterate the need for such a shift. The NOPR issued on March 19 was a welcome step in this direction. ACORE looks forward to constructive conversations with the Commission to ensure the final rulemaking aligns with needed reforms.
