Mr. Neil Gerber, Global Director at IBM, to fill open seat on ACORE board of directors

Washington, D.C. — The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Neil Gerber, Global Director for IBM’s Smarter Lifecycle Asset Management (SLAM) initiative, to the ACORE board of directors.

Mr. Gerber has over 25 years of industry experience providing advanced solutions to the power and utility industry. He has also served in executive management positions with a successful power plant simulation company and an internet-based file storage company. Presently, Mr. Gerber is responsible for the strategy, sales, and development of IBM’s SLAM solutions. He holds engineering degrees from University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University.

“I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to join ACORE’s board and contribute to the vital mission of scaling up renewable energy in the U.S. and worldwide,” Gerber said. “I am looking forward to bringing IBM’s expertise in the power sector to ACORE’s programs, adding value for ACORE members and helping to tackle some of the largest challenges this sector is currently facing – from technology to future utility business models and more.”

ACORE’s Board Chair and Interim President and CEO, Dan Reicher, welcomed Mr. Gerber to the board saying, “Neil’s contribution to ACORE is highly anticipated and we’re very pleased to continue to enjoy IBM’s expertise and leadership on our board.” Reicher, who is also the Executive Director of the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy & Finance at Stanford University added, “As energy markets evolve, there’s little doubt that transmission, digital energy management, and the utility of the future will be paramount issues for the industry. Neil’s expertise in these areas will help ensure ACORE remains on the cutting edge in its programs and offerings.”

As the Global Director for IBM’s SLAM initiative, Mr. Gerber leads solutions that seek to leverage information across an asset’s lifecycle through information management, advanced analytics, and optimization. Previously, Mr. Gerber was the Power Generation Leader for the Energy & Utilities industry at IBM. In this position he was responsible for devising, developing and executing the solution portfolio strategy and capabilities for all of IBM’s power generation business.

“Neil has dedicated his career to applying advanced analytics to the problems of managing complex power generation systems around the globe,” said Brad Gammons, IBM general manager for the energy and utilities industry. With his proven track record and leadership capabilities, Neil will contribute to ACORE’s mission by finding new ways to integrate renewable energy into energy systems of today and the future.”

ACORE board member, Joe Desmond, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Government Affairs for BrightSource Energy, applauded Mr. Gerber’s appointment saying, “The energy business is changing rapidly and I am very excited to work alongside Neil. The ACORE board has many different perspectives, from financial professionals to developers to policy experts.
