ACORE to Honor Renewable Energy Champion, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, at Awards Gala
Washington, D.C. – The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), a national nonprofit organization that unites finance, policy, and technology to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy, has named U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL-14) as the recipient of its Renewable Energy Champion Award this year. The award will be presented this evening at ACORE’s Annual Awards Gala at Union Station.
“We are pleased to recognize Rep. Castor as this year’s Renewable Energy Champion in light of her critical efforts to redefine the nation’s climate agenda,” said ACORE President and CEO Gregory Wetstone. “Rep. Castor has unwaveringly pursued policies that will allow us to meet our climate goals, reduce electricity costs for American families, and create hundreds of thousands of good-paying new jobs. We look forward to her continued leadership in Congress as we work to address the climate imperative.”
In 2018, Rep. Castor was appointed by Speaker Pelosi to chair the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. Under her leadership, the Select Committee authored the Solving the Climate Crisis report, a comprehensive set of policy recommendations that is widely considered the most important contribution on climate action in the history of U.S. politics. In just over two years, more than 300 of the report’s recommendations were enacted into law as key elements of the CHIPS Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the Inflation Reduction Act, a testament to the indelible legacy of the Select Committee and Rep. Castor.
“I am grateful to be recognized by ACORE as a Renewable Energy Champion after a year of historic progress,” said Rep. Castor. “Led by the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, House Democrats and President Biden, we passed legislation that will create good-paying local jobs, slash energy bills, bolster domestic manufacturing, build a modern electric grid, uplift disadvantaged communities, and position America to lead the world in an emerging clean economy. Our work to unleash clean energy sources and ensure they’re accessible to everyday Americans will go a long way towards fighting the climate crisis and ensuring a healthy, resilient, just and stronger America for generations to come. Alongside incredible partners like ACORE, our work to expand clean energy across America moves forward with urgency and the resources to get it done.”
