The report, ‘Potential Customer Benefits of Interregional Transmission,’ produced by GE International, Inc. for the Macro Grid Initiative, points to three geographic areas today with greater than 70% renewable energy penetration: California, Denmark and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). The report notes that the demand for clean energy from public policies leads to 20-50% renewable energy penetration by 2035 and describes the significant benefits of interregional transmission to reducing the cost and increasing the reliability of the power system in that future state.
