For Immediate Release—June 25, 2014
New York City, June 25, 2014 – The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) today released the results of a new poll demonstrating strong support from business leaders for renewable energy in America.
The opinion poll was conducted with Global Strategy Group in early June 2014, among 800 business leaders in two regions of the United States (the Southwest and Midwest) on several important renewable energy issues.
Overwhelmingly, business leaders believe that renewable energy technologies are good for their own businesses – Four in five business leaders say that using renewable energy can help their own businesses, and three-quarters say renewable energy will reduce costs for their business over the next 10 to 20 years.
The CEO of American Clean Energy and ACORE board member, Steve Morgan, commented, “As a business owner myself I see that renewable energy has a lot to offer. Whether it’s through putting solar on your roof to cut electricity costs, or doing business deals with the clean energy supply chain, renewables are feeding the U.S. economy and are a growing, profitable American industry that’s here to stay.”
The poll also shows broad support from business leaders for developing more renewable energy production and reducing emissions from coal power plants. By a margin of more than two to one, business leaders polled say that the U.S. should emphasize alternative energy like solar and wind over the production of fossil fuels. By the same margin, business leaders also support federal regulations that would significantly reduce carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants.
“This poll validates the economic opportunity of renewable energy in this country,” said ACORE board co-chair and President of CalCEF, Dan Adler. “At a pivotal moment for energy policy in America, this polling data should encourage EPA to double down on renewable energy as they move forward with finalizing their new carbon rule.”
ACORE CEO Michael Brower echoed these comments, noting, “The triple bottom line offered by renewable energy: economic security, national security and environmental security, is an obvious advantage that speaks to the business community. Maybe it’s time for Congress to stop listening to special interests fighting against renewables, and to start listening to their constituents.”
ACORE advocates that an America powered by renewable energy is a stronger, more secure, cleaner, and more prosperous America. This business polling shows the potential of America’s renewable energy industry to provide new opportunities to power a 21st century economy. Renewable energy provides the country with an unparalleled chance to reinvigorate the U.S. economy while protecting our environment.
