FERC Report Shows Renewable Energy Accounts for 46.22% of New Electric Generation in 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 7, 2012 – The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) applauds the renewable energy industry for installing 46.22% of new electrical generating capacity brought online since the beginning of 2012. According to a recently released report from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower accounted for a majority of the new renewable energy projects producing clean electricity in 2012, and are now responsible for more than 14.9% of total operating generating capacity in the U.S.

August 31 -- This week, Hurricane Isaac delivered yet another lesson of wind’s wild ways. Properly employed, however, wind is a powerful aide. The American Wind Energy Association said this month that U.S. wind turbines can produce 50 gigawatts of electricity, the same amount as 11 nuclear power plants or 44 coal-fired plants. >>View Article

April 24 -- Nearly 22 million electric vehicles will be sold from 2012 to 2020, according to an analysis by Boulder-based Navigant Research. "The average price for fuel for conventional vehicles will likely continue to rise through the remainder of this decade, driving demand for electric vehicles," said Dave Hurst, principal research analyst with Navigant Research. >>View Article

April 19 -- With the flip of a switch, Las Vegas city officials today celebrated the powering up of 15,000 new solar panels that will provide energy to a nearby wastewater treatment plant. >>View Article

November 1 --  Car buyers in the state of Tennessee rank among America’s top consumers of electric vehicles, reports Edmunds.com, the premier resource for automotive information.  Edmunds.com’s analysis of Polk’s new car registration data finds that 2.9 percent of all new electric vehicles sold so far in the U.S. this year were registered in Tennessee, ranking the state 9th in the nation. >>View Article

October 3 -- This month has been a fortuitous one for green jobs, despite the ups and downs particularly in the wind energy sector, and there are a handful of companies who seem to be on a hiring spree, on the look-out for qualified applicants with backgrounds in everything from agriculture, engineering, construction, design, natural sciences and marketing. >>View Article

October 2 -- On the eve of the first presidential debate, a flurry of new polls suggest most Americans support clean energy and policies to reduce climate change — topics that have garnered scant attention on the campaign trail. Nine out of 10 registered voters (92%) said it was "very" or "somewhat" important for the United States to develop and use solar power, according to an online survey of 1,206 adults released Tuesday by the independent polling firm Hart Research Associates. >>View Article
