Matt Cheney

Clean Path Ventures Group

Matt Cheney is the CEO of CleanPath Ventures LLC, a next generation effort designed to manage capital intensive late-stage renewable energy project development and financing, servicing growing demand for solutions.  In addition, CleanPath works to deploy and integrate emerging clean energy technologies into fields of proven technologies, serving to "commercialize" the new technologies in the process.  
Prior to CleanPath, Matt was the CEO, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures LLC, a largest-scale IPP.   Prior to Fotowatio, Mr. Cheney was the CEO of MMA Renewable Ventures LLC, which pioneered the use of the power purchase agreement for solar power, and developed, financed, owned and operated over 50 commercial scale PV projects, and developed over 1.6 GW of utility scale solar by 2009.  MMA Renewable Ventures closed 5 fully leveraged tax equity funds ($300 MM) to finance its portfolio of commercial and utility scale projects, along with wind and biomass power plants.

Matt has invested in and directed a number of new clean tech companies, including Black Rock Solar (rural electrification using PV), PV Evolution Labs (PV lab and field testing), Promise Energy (solar PV  & thermal solutions), Vizn (storage), GeoStellar (geo-mapping), etc.  He is skilled at helping new companies stabilize and grow, including raising capital.  Mr. Cheney is also expert in international development, having worked for 6 years in Central/South America for the U.S. Agency for International Development, CARE and Save the Children.  He has also worked for the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.  Mr. Cheney holds a B.S. Degree from The American University and a Master Degree from Johns Hopkins School for International Studies.
